History

Founded in 1875 by Inocencio Alvarez and Manin Garcia, the brand draws inspiration from the renowned Shakespearean tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. As the lectors read the story to the torcedores in the factory, the tale became deeply intertwined with the brand's identity.

Romeo y Julieta cigars have captured the hearts of aficionados and the Cuban people alike, solidifying their position as one of the most beloved Cuban cigar brands. From its inception, these beloved Romeo y Julieta cigars garnered multiple prestigious gold medal awards, still proudly displayed on the brand's logo to this day.

Though widely regarded as a popular cigar, it wasn't until the brand was acquired by Jose "Pepin" Rodrigues Fernandez that Romeo y Julieta truly became a Cuban staple. Over the years, the popularity of Romeo y Julieta soared to new heights. It was during Pepin’s tenure that renowned statesmen Sir Winston Churchill found himself on the floor of the renowned factory, sampling a gregarious size 7 x 47 cigar. Churchill, a cigar aficionado in his own right, took to the vitola so much that it decidedly named the Churchill, a modern staple for many cigar smokers to this day.

However, the Cuban government quickly seized control of the factory amidst the turmoil of the Cuban Revolution. Today, Romeo y Julieta cigars continue to be crafted with the same recipe of medium-full-bodied goodness with a wide variety of expertly made vitolas. Indulge in the enduring legacy of Romeo y Julieta cigars by ordering yours today. Experience the artistry, flavors, and allure that have made them a timeless classic among cigar enthusiasts worldwide!
